Eastland Port welcomes three interns

Eastland Port is proud to announce the launch of a summer internship programme, offering three students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience over the holiday period.

Briar Robb, Eastland Port General Manager People, Safety and Communications said, "We're very proud to support the next generation of professionals in Tairawhiti. 

"Our goal is to broaden the students' understanding of the workforce and support them in building practical skills that will benefit them throughout their careers.

"It's also a great opportunity for students to see that there are some interesting and diverse roles located in regional New Zealand. We hope these experiences inspire them to get out there and try some new things but also see the value of contributing to their local community."

Jess Steele is a Gisborne girl currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Canterbury. She is working towards obtaining a double major in Human Resource Operations and Supply Chain Management and is joining as the HR Intern.

"I was stoked when I found out I was a successful applicant and feel this is a great stepping stone into my career. I am excited to build a strong network of mentors."

Campbell McPherson, from Mount Wellington, is entering his fourth year studying a Bachelor of Science and Commerce.

"I am joining as the Asset Manager Intern and am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience.

"As a student nearing the end of my degree, getting experience in a professional environment has been more valuable than any tertiary course I've completed."

Olivia Gaddum, also a Gisborne girl is working as the Communications Intern. She is a third-year student at the University of Otago majoring in Communications and Media Studies.

"I am one month into my role and I've really enjoyed learning new skills and building connections. The internship is expanding my understanding of communications, public relations, and marketing, and how it's applied in a professional setting."

Mrs Robb said, "It's been great having the students join our team as they've come in with fresh eyes and lots of ideas."

All three interns are excited to take on their roles at Eastland Port this summer, eager to learn new skills build connections, and gain practical experience that will help shape their future careers.
