The heart of Gisborne
At Eastland Port’s Inner Harbour Precinct, you’re in the very centre of Gisborne. This area is part of a working port, a place of many histories, an important recreational hub for the community, and a vibrant hospitality and tourism destination. Eastland Port also manages the 43-berth marina, and there’s a free boat ramp owned by Gisborne District Council. Come down and experience the exciting maritime atmosphere.
The harbour is the place to visit for genuinely one-of-a-kind, only-in-Tairāwhiti experiences. Eastland Port is a sponsor or supporter of several tourism activities in the area, as their profile on the national and international stage continues to grow.
You can, for example, take a cruise around the bay on the MV Takitimu. Built in 1921, she has spent more than a century on the water, and is believed to be the oldest pilot vessel in New Zealand that is still able to be operated. We are long-time sponsors of this important piece of national maritime history.
Operated by the Tairāwhiti Voyaging Trust, the Tairāwhiti waka hourua explores the voyaging stories of Tūranganui-a-Kiwa and Aotearoa. Eastland Port developed a purpose-built berth for the waka hourua, and it carries a piece of port history: a 120-year-old tōtara beam, unearthed here on site. We are a proud sponsor of the waka and her crew.
If you fancy a land-based adventure, we recommend the Wa165 steam train, operated by the Gisborne City Vintage Railway. Built in 1897, she is the only remaining Wa class steam locomotive in the world. Looking across the inner harbour to the city side of the bridge, you’ll see the plumes of steam rising as the Wa165 departs on regular excursions. Eastland Port have supported this iconic Tairāwhiti attraction for many years.

Located right on the water in Shed 1, Lone Star is famous for its great food, and is the perfect place to watch all the big sporting events.
Wharf Bar
Also in Shed 1 is the Wharf Bar & Grill. With their open kitchen design, you can be entertained and watch their chefs prepare your meal in style, using the finest local ingredients.
Gisborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club
The fishing club pride themselves on a membership that represents 15% of the community. They're a busy restaurant and bar, with arguably the best exhibition of mounted fish in the southern hemisphere.
Crawford Road Kitchen
Crawford Road Kitchen work with local wineries to showcase the best of the region, and offer knowledgeable wine tastings and food matching.
