Eastland Port is opening its gates to the community on Saturday 31 October from 10am to 12 noon for a special Halloween edition of Wharf Wheels, celebrating the completion of its Twin Berth Project.
The community event will give whānau the chance to bring their bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades onto Wharves 7 and 8 and experience a part of the port that public don’t get access to.
Eastland Port Chief Executive Andrew Gaddum said Wharf Wheels was a great opportunity to celebrate an important milestone for the port with the wider community.
“The Twin Berth Project is a significant investment in the future of the port, so it feels fitting to mark its completion by inviting the community in to experience the new wharves for themselves,” Mr Gaddum said.
“Wharf Wheels has always been a really fun way for people to see the port from a completely different perspective.”
Visitors will be able to ride, scoot, skate and roll around the new wharves, get up close to port machinery and, shipping permitting, see two large ships berthed alongside.
With the event falling on Halloween, attendees are encouraged to come in costume, with prizes up for grabs for some of the best outfits.
Parking in the Inner Harbour and surrounding area will be very limited, so attendees are encouraged to leave their cars at home or park in town and walk or ride to the event.
Entry will be through the port entrance of the Inner Harbour.
