Coastal shipping given the green light

Today the Government has announced a new emergency container shipping route between Eastland Port and Napier Port which will act as a lifeline for regional economies and further help aid cyclone recovery.
The support is by way of a $500,000 grant and a $2.25m underwrite for the charter of the Rangitata for the coming three months.
Without this financial support, we wouldn’t be able to make it happen so we are over the moon and very grateful we can continue to service our community.
We’ve heard from our customers that the current road freight alternative to Napier is costing them thousands of dollars so it’s great we can keep the money in the pocket of our local people.
The 67-metre-long Rangitata will arrive in port after midday on Monday and will begin unloading empty containers. Keep an eye out of our Facebook page on Monday for any changes to the arrival time.
Normally you would have months of preparation to get a project of this size in place but our team have adapted to the needs of the community and made it work.
This is a huge win for our region and we hope to be able to continue this beyond the repair of the roading network.
